Nizza Monfettato and the Barbera

In the central part of the area, from the viewpoint of the Bric Nose,
you can capture the different parcels’ use, distributed on average reliefs with average slopes: those in the South, better exposed, are cultivated with vineyards, while those in the North are often occupied by arable lands and woodlands, as well as the small valley floors.

The landscape is particular and variable also from the chromatic point of view, related to the nuances of Barbera’s leaves: these have a dark green color on the upper side, sometimes reddened or bronzed already in summer, and light green on the bottom.

The autumn coloring is rather reddish, often tending to bright red, with an aesthetic effect of great impact. The most significant city of the area is Nizza Monferrato, considered the capital of the Barbera from the commercial and promotional point of view, also because some of the largest enological companies are situated within its municipal boundaries.

Numerous roads are on ridges, from which they can capture larger portions of landscape, where stand out the upland settlements of Vinchio, Vaglio Serra and Castelnuovo Calce

The Country Museum and Antique prints Bersano

The Country Museum and Antique prints Bersano (II Museo delle Contadinerie e delle Stampe antiche Bersano ) was commissioned by Arturo Bersano since 1950, in order to gather the most pained and together joyous testimonies of rural culture linked to wine production. The museum is divided into two sections. the “peasant culture” and that of prints collections. The first is located outdoors, since farmers’ life and their daily work was outside. Between trunks, kegs and agricultural carts, they perceive the peasant’s looks, the seasons’ changing, the women’s songs, the suffering and the relationship between man and his land.

Among the valuable parts of this collection, there are some wooden presses of the ‘600 and’ 700, a few are used only for grapes, others also for oil. Furthermore they can find many wooden objects, including large wine barrels, kegs to bring the wine on shoulder, tubs and vats for wine fermentation. Here are also exhibited all objects that derived from iron and glass manufacture: wine glasses, pints, and even quarter-kegs blown in the dark glass of Pirino.

The collection of Piedmontese pre-Napoleonic pints is also very fascinating. Inside this building there is a collection of prints concerning wine themes, edicts that discipline wine and its marketing, handwritten labels, ancient parchments and advertising posters, geographical hills’ cards, landscapes’ views, menus’ collections of ‘800.
